The expression Wheel Loader starts in may 1954 when some pioneers of Bröderna Lundberg's Mekaniska and AB Bolinder Munktell Companies changes an ordinary farm tractor into a front loader machine by installing the loading units over the rear wheels.
The first Volvo Wheel Loader, the H10, was the first in the world to have a tool carrier, a parallel cinematic and a double effect lifting jack. Success was immediate and the starting point of a heavy equipment series more and more appreciated.
The beginning of Volvo Wheel Loaders:
Volvo Wheel Loader start 50 years ago but Volvo history began more than 170 years ago when Johan Teofron Munktell was developing the metallurgic local industry in Eskilstuna in 1832 with the Eskilstuna Mekaniska Verkstad company.
In 1932 this company merge with the Bolinder brothers under the name of Bolinder-Munktell or BM. In the year 1930-40, BM was one of the biggest manufacturers of heavy equipment and agricultural tractors, the ones used to produce the Volvo H10 Wheel loader. Cooperation between the two companies increase until Volvo buy BM in 1950.
In 1960, the Arvika factory - today principal site of wheel loader making - was buying by Volvo. Six years later the first Wheel Loader was assembling in this factory: The LM-840. The frame, the engine, the transmission, the jacks and the wheels where all make in Eskilstuna but the final assembling was made in Arvika with the loader units and the cabins.
Decades of evolution in Volvo Wheel Loaders:
In the middle of the sixties, Volvo began a new era with faster and more comfortable wheel loaders having powerful engines, power shift transmission and four wheels propulsion. In 1969 Volvo introduce the first hydraulic tool carrier.

In the 1970-80 years, improvement was succeeding each other with new characteristics such as the load sensing hydraulic system, the first automatic shift power (ASP) for wheel loaders and very low emission engines to prevent pollution. Also, for more comfort, Volvo introduces the lever command control (CDC) and the lifting harm suspension (BSS) systems.
In 1973, the company change is name for Volvo BM. Four years later, Volvo put and end to the agricultural and forest equipment production to concentrate more on construction heavy equipment. Volvo Wheel loaders are also manufacturing in Brazil and USA Volvo factories.
In 1991, Volvo introduce is famous L150 Wheel Loader: A prodigious technologic bound with several features that are still use on today wheel loaders such as the harm lifting cinematic (TP linkage) with is incredible caving strength, the Care Cab cabin for optimal comfort and the Contronic electronic control system.
In 2001, Volvo introduces his new Wheel Loader family, the E series that combines productivity and conducting pleasure. The Volvo wheel loaders were already well known for high productivity and low fuel consumption, with the E series, Volvo make a step further. The fact that Volvo produces is own components give the best combination between the engines, the cinematic chains, the hydraulic systems and the harm lifting system. The final result is a more productive wheel loader for a lower cost.
